About Ateljé Kaja
Ateljé Kaja is a small ceramics studio in Ulleråker, Uppsala, built around clay, curiosity and the pleasure of making things together. There is room here for a first encounter with ceramics, for returning to the material, and for giving a new idea time to take shape.
We work with handbuilding, wheel throwing, decoration and glazing. Our workshops stay small so there is time for questions, individual guidance and space to work at your own pace. No previous experience is needed. We introduce the foundations and stay close when you need support.
The studio is both a working place for artistic practice and a warm, everyday place for workshops, friends, families, groups and companies. We want it to feel easy to come in, sit down at the table and begin working with your hands.
For us, ceramics is about more than the finished object. Clay can keep the marks of the process, forms can stay irregular and ideas can change while you work. Attention, experimentation and the encounter with the material matter more than making everything look perfect.
Ateljé Kaja was founded by ceramic artist and academic Ali Cihan Kayalioglu. He holds a master's degree in ceramics and has completed a Proficiency in Art, a doctoral level qualification in the arts.
He has more than ten years of teaching experience in ceramics and art, working across universities, independent studios and workshops.
His work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions and has received recognition in national ceramics competitions. His artistic practice often begins with direct contact with clay and free handbuilding, with recurring interests in sculptural form, material experimentation, dialogue, balance and human relationships.
Alongside this, he has developed and continues to expand his practice in 3D printing and design, bringing digital tools into dialogue with material based and sculptural ways of working.
For more information, visit his website or follow his work on Instagram.
